Guaranteed-issue disability
Income protection designed for government employees
FEBA offers eligible actively working government employees access to guaranteed-issue short-term disability coverage. The program is designed to provide monthly cash benefits following a covered sickness, injury, surgery, or pregnancy.
Federal employees
Guaranteed-issue benefits may be available up to $5,000 per month, subject to the program’s income limit and policy requirements.
Postal employees
Guaranteed-issue benefits may be available up to $4,000 per month, subject to the program’s income limit and policy requirements.
Potential disability-plan features
Early Benefits
Benefits may begin on the 15th day of a covered disability, with first-day benefits for qualifying hospitalization under applicable policy provisions.
Broad Protection
Coverage may apply to covered sickness, injury, surgery, and pregnancy, on or off the job.
Direct Cash Benefit
Monthly benefits are paid directly to the insured and may supplement sick leave or other qualifying coverage.
Life insurance options
Guaranteed-issue and simplified-issue life coverage
FEBA provides eligible federal, postal, and DC government employees access to guaranteed-issue and simplified-issue life insurance options. Coverage can supplement FEGLI or provide individually owned protection structured around family and financial needs.
Guaranteed issue still has eligibility rules
Guaranteed issue means the carrier does not use traditional medical underwriting for the designated amount when the applicant meets the program rules. It does not eliminate policy conditions.
